One day: south coast first
- Morning drive from Reykjavik. See getting there.
- Búðir for the black church and the lava field.
- Arnarstapi: Gatklettur and the cliff path, and Hellnar if you have an hour.
- Lóndrangar and Djúpalónssandur on the western tip.
- Kirkjufell on the north coast, then back to Reykjavik.
Cut a stop rather than rush all of them. Weather can add an hour to the drive. Djúpalónssandur and Kirkjufell are the two that are worth protecting.
Two days: sleep in Arnarstapi
Day one: the south coast, Hellnar and a long evening on the cliffs. Day two: the glacier area (Snæfellsjökull), then the north coast and Kirkjufell on the way home. Where to stay.

A guided tour does the loop for you, with a driver who knows which roads are open.

Frequently asked questions
Can you see Snæfellsnes in one day from Reykjavik?
Yes, but it is a long day. Expect around 190 km each way to Arnarstapi. A guided day tour removes the driving, or you can do a shorter loop with a few stops.
How many days do you need on Snæfellsnes?
Two days is comfortable: one for the south coast around Arnarstapi and the glacier, one for the north coast with Kirkjufell and Grundarfjörður.
Which way round should I drive the peninsula?
Either works. Many people drive the south coast first, via Arnarstapi, and finish at Kirkjufell for the evening light, then return to Reykjavik.
